Chance
It's funny how chance encounters can eventually turn into life changing events.
Her name was Melanie.
The specifics of our meeting are fairly inconsequential, both of us working at a summer camp. It sounds as if it could be the beginning of a porno, but that's not the road that it went down.
Several obstacles stood in the way of us ever being together. First and foremost, we both were in relationships at the time. And though both relationships were poisonous and unhappy, it seemed as if things could still never happen.
Days later, on the heels of yet another fight with her man, I jokingly said "Why don't we just go makeout."
Less than an hour later, it happened.
Our romance became the definition of the term "on and off." A week or so on, months off. For whatever reason, things just never worked out.
But it was not for lack of want. Beautiful, charming, in all other ways perfect. Every bit the dream girl.
But life can be a cruel mistress, and things never progressed. The back and forth game continued for nearly two years.
Then it happened. Both of us put aside our bullshit and decided to go for it, before opportunity passed us by for good.
Because after all, there's nothing worse than too late.
Neither of us never never looked back.
